NEW DELHI -- Officials from India's Ministry of Home Affairs and the Department of Telecommunications met Thursday to discuss security concerns related to BlackBerry services, two government officials said.
A DoT official, who declined to be named, told reporters that the meeting ended "inconclusively," but refused to provide details.
A home ministry official, also speaking on condition of anonymity, said officials from India's Intelligence Bureau, National Technical Research Organisation, DoT and state-run telecommunication services provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. attended the meeting.
The National Technical Research Organisation is a government body that deals with technology related to security concerns.
Executives from BlackBerry-maker Research In Motion Ltd. and private telecom operators weren't present as it was "an internal meeting," he added.
The home secretary is likely to brief Home Minister P. Chidambaram on the developments later in the day, the official said. Another meeting may take place tomorrow on the same issues, he added.
Meanwhile, executives from the Canadian company met Mr. Chidambaram, but the minister said it was a "courtesy" visit.

Deolalikar, who works at the research arm of Hewlett-Packard in Palo Alto, California, said that he has proven that P is not equal to NP.
The solution, if right, could earn him 1 million dollars as prize money.
P vs NP is one of the seven millennium problems set out by the Massachusetts-based Clay Mathematical Institute as being the "most difficult" to solve.
Deolalikar claims to have proven that P, which refers to problems whose solutions are easy to find and verify, is not the same as NP, which refers to problems whose solutions are almost impossible to find but easy to verify.

In another attempt to bring a usable computer to the masses at an extremely affordable price point, India has developed a touchscreen computing device which will cost only $35. According to a press release by India’s Press Information Bureau, the price is expected to drop even further, first to $20 and ultimately to a mere $10.
The reports about the device’s hardware vary greatly; all we can say for sure is that it’s portable and has a touchscreen, which pretty much makes it a tablet.

According to Indian Express, it has a 5/7/9-inch touchscreen (we don’t know whether that means there will be several versions of the device or they’re simply unsure what the actual size is, but it looks like a 7-incher to us), and, on the software side, it sports a web browser, PDF reader, office software, media player, multimedia input/output capabilities, video conferencing (it must have a camera, then) and remote device management capability — all of it open-source and Linux ()-based.
Whatever hardware is running this thing, it’s ready for production, according to India’s Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal. “We have reached a (developmental) stage that today; the motherboard, its chip, the processing, connectivity, all of them cumulatively cost around $35, including memory, display, everything,” he said at a news conference in New Delhi.
The device, Sibal said, should be available to consumers sometime in 2011.
